Pat Campbell did actually penetrate the UK Top 40 with "The Deal" reaching #31 in November 1969.

Mr Campbell was part of the '50s Irish harmony group The Four Ramblers, together with a young Val Doonican, and at the time of this recording (and its parent album, "Just A Quiet Conversation") was a Radio Luxembourg DJ. He subsequently compered C&W programmes for Radio 2 from the 1970's onwards. Pretty well irredeemable in this context, but it has a strange effect in the company of an extremely death-fixated 1969 singles chart.

Pat worked for Phil Solomon's Major-Minor Records, an Irish record label based in north London, that including Red Sovine on its roster. (Red Sovine managed to get into Kenney Everett's 1980 version of The Bottom 30). He broadcast for many years on Radio 2 presenting "Country Style" and featured weekly Johnny Cash and Jim Reeves spots, until he was dismissed by the BBC. Pat recorded the "Just A Quiet Conversation" album for Major-Minor (which was re-issued on EMI's Starline).

Pat was known to have a wicked sense of humour and Pete Murray's autobiography mentions that he was a long-time practical joker.
